The current fitness craze seems to be running/ exercising with an Altitutde Mask. The companies claim the mask will replicate training in an environment that lacks oxygen (hypoxia) and puts a bigger demand on the cardiovascular system resulting in improved performance. At first thought, this seems like a great idea. The Kenya marathon runners train in altitude, the United States Olympic training facility is right outside of Denver to allow athletes to train in altitude, and even cyclists in endurance events like the Tour de France have to get their bodies acclimated to the altitude to be successful. However, after further consideration I am not sold on the effects of the mask.
