Swimmer’s Core

Muscles making up the core are arguably the most important group of muscles for a swimmer. Not having a good core can result in increased drag, an inefficient stroke, a lost of energy/ strength. In essence, a strong core is the foundation to maximizing a swimmer's performance. Athletes without a string core will have difficulty keeping a streamline position, will have an excessive roll in the stroke, and possibly have flexing and extending spinal movements. To maximize core strength athletes should do exercises to challenge the core. While crunches and sit-ups will improve core strength here are some more functional exercises that are specific to swimmers.
