Turf toe is a painful and debilitating sprain of the big toe. This injury normally occurs on a harder surface such as turf (hence the name) when the big toe is excessively bent back. In some cases there may be force pushed through the heel or calf while the foot and toes are on the ground. What makes this injury so problematic is because every time you walk and push off the toe it places pressure on the injured area. Each step will bend the toe back.
