A Lisfranc injury is an injury to the midfoot. Though this injury is not too common it can be very painful and debilitating, often leading to athletes missing extended time away from their chosen sport.
There are a couple of unique factors that have to occur for the Lisfrac joint to be injured. First that foot must be positioned so the toes are pointing down (known as plantarflexion). Second the foot must be planted in the ground so the toes are on the ground but the heel is raised. Third, there must be a direct force placed directly down on the foot. The force usually starts at the heel of the foot and pushes the entire foot down into the ground.
If you believe you have sustained a Lisfranc Injury after having someone or something land on your foot please seek medical attention.
