Deep Cervical Flexor Muscles: Often overlooked but very important to train
The deep cervical flexors are a group of muscles on the front of your neck that perform simple movements such as nodding and turning the head and provide stability for the head. Unfortunately when these muscles are not properly trained and or combined with poor posture weakeness of these muscles can occur and ultimately lead to the head sitting a little more forward. This forward head posture can result in chronic neck pain when uncorrected, but even more importantly in MMA places the jaw forward and more exposed, ultimately, increasing the chance to be hit or even knocked out by an oppopponent. The following exercises are designed to strengthen the deep cervical flexors ultimately moving the head back over the shoulders, and place the head and neck in an optimal position.
